Katsumi Komagata
PIECES
"PIECES" is a series of oil pastel works depicting shapes created from pieces of paper. This series, which can be considered a new beginning for Katsumi Komagata, started when Komagata opened his studio in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture in 2021.
As he walks, Komagata happens to see whitetail deer, antelope, foxes, and raccoons. He sees off the swans that fly in flocks at the end of winter, and in spring, songbirds begin to sing. Surrounded by the richness of nature, Komagata creates his own works of art every day, just as he did when he once flew to the United States and set out for a new land.
